Royal Air Force Typhoon FGR4s have conducted a mission with France's air force in a coordinated attack on an underground arms cache in Syria operated by the IS group, as stated by the UK's MoD.
The location, located using reconnaissance, was believed to be storing arms and explosives, the release indicated, and was located in mountains just to the north of Palmyra in Syria's central region.
"Our fighter planes employed Paveway IV guided bombs to strike a series of access tunnels down to the depot... early reports are that the strike was effective," the ministry announced.
There was no evidence of any harm to civilians in the operation conducted Saturday night and every plane involved returned to base without incident, the MoD added.
The British jets were assisted by a Voyager aerial refuelling aircraft.
IS - alternatively referred to as ISIS - enforced militant control over significant areas in Iraq and Syria prior to its 2019 collapse.
"This action underscores our UK leadership, and resolve to stand shoulder to shoulder with our allies, to stamp out any revival of the terrorist group and their harmful and extremist ideologies in the area," Britain's Defence Chief the minister remarked.
UK warplanes have performed patrols over Syria to "deter any efforts to regroup" of IS after its routing at the climactic battle in Baghuz in 2019, the ministry said.
"I want to thank the personnel of the UK armed forces who took part in this strike for their professionalism and their courage," Healey commented. "They were part of numerous British personnel on duty over the festive period. This mission, to remove dangerous terrorists who threaten our security, highlights how our armed forces are prepared to act, continuously, protecting the UK at home and strong abroad."

The UN says Islamic State still maintains roughly 5-7 thousand combatants in both countries.
