One extended journey around the Land Down Under is being halted in the wake of the fatal incident of an elderly lady who was left behind by the cruise liner on a remote island.

The elderly woman had been trekking on Lizard Island with shipmates from the cruise ship, but broke off from the group for a pause. The liner sailed away leaving her and returned later that day after the ship staff became aware the woman was not present.

A large-scale rescue mission located her remains the following day.

Authorities are examining the incident, alongside police and the medical examiner.

The CEO of the voyage organizer said that travelers and staff on the ship were told that the continuation of the cruise had been terminated due to the "tragic passing and previous mechanical issues".

Through an announcement, he added that passengers would be provided a full refund, and said the organization was working "to coordinate the return journeys of the individuals via chartered flights".

Officials also released an latest announcement, and said they had "issued a notice to the Master" prohibiting any new passengers from boarding the ship.

The spokesperson said that they would inspect the liner in the Australian city upon its coming back.

The liner originally sailed from the coastal city on October 24th, and was merely two days into the journey at the time of the 80-year-old's death. Lizard Island was the opening port on the voyage.
