The artist has handed over the complete sum of his £25,000 award cash to the Music Venues Trust, which functions to protect the United Kingdom's small live music spots.

He was awarded the cheque on October 16 as his latest record the album was chosen as the outstanding release of the previous year.

He has opted to give the cash to the trust, in acknowledgment of the vital role local spots played in his initial steps.

"As an artist wouldn't be doing this success if it hadn't been for all the shows I played around the North East, and beyond, when I was just getting going," stated Sam Fender. "These spaces are legendary, but they are in difficulty."

Since the start of 2023, over 150 of these venues have shut down – approximately one-sixth of the whole industry in the UK.

In the last year, well-known musicians like Pulp, Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Sheeran have all aided the Music Venues Trust in its initiatives to keep the scene afloat, by applying a modest fee to their ticket costs, which supports smaller concert halls.

Fender also joined in, generating in excess of £100,000 on his live tour to help numerous grassroots venues across Britain.

The donation helped locations that were confronting imminent closure due to challenges caused by flooding, fire incidents and bereavements, as well as permit problems, conflicts and sound issues.

Some locations were granted financial assistance in improving infrastructure and gear that positively impacted musicians and fans.

"The concept that money from performances in major spaces helps the local stages, where it all starts for artists like me, is just logical," Sam Fender has stated.

Fender is far from the only musician to give his award winnings to charitable organizations.

When the band won the prize in the year 1996 for their album their work, vocalist Cocker declared that the act would donate their prize money to the non-profit War Child.

That year, musician Ms Dynamite split her award across multiple charities, such as the children's charity and a Sickle Cell charity.

"I also contributed a £1,000 to the center, to their gymnastics program, because I practiced gymnastics when I was younger and they required new equipment," the artist told outlets.

Two years ago, the band donated their winnings to the youth organization that nurtured their band, as well as other independent music bodies.

And the 1994 recipients they donated their award to a charity for MS after a close contact was diagnosed the condition.

"The victory was ample," remarked artist the singer. "The cash was the cherry on top but we didn't require the extra, because we had the honor. So our winning affected somebody else's life."

In the past week, the MVT announced it had protected two small stages in that region, by placing them under local control.

One venue in that area and The Croft in that location were purchased under the public acquisition program, which is funded by a national body and music fans who buy "stakes" in the buildings.
